Venice Civic museums

The Foundation was founded following the resolution passed by the Comune di Venezia Council board on March 3rd 2008 with the objective of managing and developing the full potential of the immense cultural and artistic heritage of the Musei Civici di Venezia. Formed as a participatory foundation, it has only one founding member, the Comune di Venezia.
It encourages the participating partners to join together, both public and private, to contribute to the life of the foundation, supporting and agreeing with its institutional aims.

The organs of the Foundation are: the Steering Commitee, the President, the Director, the Scientific Committee and the Management Committee, the Board of auditors.

The Foundation manages and promotes a museum system that is rich, detailed, complex and financially sound; it enjoys total administrative and managerial independence - under the control of the Steering Commitee -, thus allowing operational and planning agility, considerable transparent entrepreneurial motivation, an efficient and rational corporate structure, and the ability to unite and recruit resources.

This system does not only promote the tradition proposals of any consolidated museum network (housing, conservation, study, development) but rather an outstanding body of cultural services articulated in different aspects and themes: research, training, creativity, specialisation, protection, presentation, teaching, communication .... However, at the heart of all activities are the quality of the offer, the attention paid to social demand, and the high educational and ethical value in the economic equilibrium.

The Musei Civici di Venezia brings together museums and collections of immense artistic and historical importance. It is responsible for providing various cultural services and, at an institutional level, for overseeing the conservation, study and promotion of the city's vast cultural and artistic heritage, thus contributing to the city's sense of identity.

The museums are grouped around various areas of interest: St Mark's Square; 18th-century Venice; modern and contemporary art; natural history and ethnography. Each one of these attracts a sizeable public from among tourists and young people, offering a wide range of innovative and modern services to facilitate full educational exploitation of the material on display.

The museums also hold special exhibitions of material contained in their individual collections, as well as art and historical exhibitions of international importance.
